Hello and welcome to the working parent website. This site is intended as a resource where parents working full time jobs and looking after children (which in itself is a full time job) can exchange ideas and support one another.
Who runs this website?
My name is Farhan, I am a writer, filmmaker and VFX artist living in London, UK. I have two boys (currently at 2013) the older boy aged three and a half, the younger boy aged 1 year old.
Why did I start this community?
Since becoming a dad I’ve had to take work in both North America and mainland Europe. By the time my older boy was two I had been away working for about ten months. When my second boy was born I had two days paternity leave then was away again working for almost three months. I wanted to start an online community aimed specifically at parents who are working brutally long hours and struggling to spend time with their children.
Is this site just for working parents? What about parents who are out of work or looking for jobs?
As we all know looking for a job is in itself a full time job. In fact looking for a job is more stressful than actually doing a job. I myself spent the overwhelming majority of 2012 looking for a job, I sent out two hundred and fifty job applications alone in 2012. At that time I could not find any support sites that could help parents who were looking for work, I hope we can build a community together that supports any parent, whether they are working or looking for work – believe me I know the stress involved in having kids and no job. I hope through the articles the community we build that we can support parents who are struggling to find a job and wondering how they will pay the bills.

How can I get involved?
Firstly by visiting the site you are helping, many thanks, please do take time to comment on the blog posts and mail me with any ideas that you’d like to see written up. I certainly don’t know it all and am learning everyday, what I hope to do is start some converstations that I am having with many working parents, try to summarise their concerns, address them to some degree but really serving them to the community to help find solutions and to let working or job hunting parents know that they are not alone in the challenges that they face.
